We've selected this year's nonprofits and the volunteer development/design teams have started working on the project planning. The nonprofits for 2009 are:
Possibilities' mission is to strengthen the ability of people to work together for community change. Through their Possibilities Innovation Program, Possiblities empowers communities through grass roots efforts to create stronger families, safer neighborhoods, and economic growth throughout Oklahoma City.
Hearts for Hearing creates life changing opportunities for individuals with hearing loss so they may listen for a lifetime. They provide funding for the first set of hearing aids for children under 5 with bilateral hearing loss. H4H is a comprehansive cochlear implant center, offers therapy, a preschool, summer enrichment camps and many other services.
FYI seeks to improve acedemic excellence by increasing high school graduation rates. FYI raises funds to support partner schools to develop after school programs and similar activities that are proven to reduce drop out rates.
The OKBTF provides education, advocacy and support to Oklahomans with primary brain tumors and to their families to improve their quality of life and help find a cure. The OKBTF has three main programs; Supportive Services to provide financial assistance and patienct navigation services; Eductation to provide educational materials, support groups and seminars to empower patients; Advocacy to advocate on the state and federal levels to impact the lives of the families served by the OKBTF.
Neighborhood Services Org is a faith based organization serving the at risk and homeless population by providing housing solutions and teaching skills to transform lives. They provide traditional and permanent housing, health services and monetary assistance.
